Letter From

Mrs. Hamilton & Mrs. Abernathy

March 21, 2007

Dear Eisenhower Community:

This letter is to inform you that we had to have an extended “fire drill” today due to a potential bomb threat at the school.

Some of our students reported that they discovered a possible bomb threat written on one of the boys’ bathroom stall doors.  We contacted APS police and evacuated the building as they swept it, searching for anything suspicious.  Fortunately, nothing was found, students returned to class, and our day proceeded normally.  Because of the time this took away from our regular schedule, our afternoon classes were abbreviated by about eight minutes.

APS Police told us this seems to be happening at a number of campuses, and while we strongly suspected that this was simply a prank, we would, of course, rather err on the side of caution.  We want to thank those students who did the right thing by reporting the threat as soon as they saw it.  Working together, our students help to keep Eisenhower a safe place to learn!

On another note, the assemblies we had this morning were wonderful.  Ms. Lorna Efford and Detective Mark Lilly spoke with all of our students, who were extremely kind and respectful.  Ms. Efford commented as she was leaving that she was so impressed with our students – a comment we hear quite frequently from community  members.  We know this kind of behavior begins in the home – thanks for raising such wonderful children!

We want to thank Ms. Efford and Detective Lilly for taking their time to talk with our student body about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.  The message they sent was one, we believe, heard by most of our students and one we hope they take to heart.  All students received a brochure entitled “Legal but Deadly.”  Please ask your child to share it with you.

Please contact us if you have any questions.  Thank you for your continued support!

 Sincerely,

Debra Hamilton, Principal

Tonya Abernathy, Assistant Principal
